This week we continue with the task of developing our four kinds of interaction. We try to figure out “predispositions,” generating statements that describe conventional wisdom or points of view.
Readings for Discussion
Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum. “
Ghosts of the Library.”
Piscia, Jason. “
How’d They Do That? and A Clue from the Past,” State Journal-Register (14-19 Apr 2005).
Saffer, Dan. “Ch. 3: Interaction Design Basics: Elements, Principles, Attributes” in Designing for Interaction: Creating Smart Applications and Clever Devices. Peachpit Press, 2006.
Thompson, Bob. “
Histrionics and History: Lincoln Library’s High-Tech Exhibits Have Scholars Choosing Sides,” Washington Post (15 Feb 2005).
Demonstration
Two very powerful, freely available graphics tools:
Google Sketchup 6 and
GIMP: GNU Image Manipulation Program. If you’re feeling adventuresome you can download and install these programs on your own computer and play with them before studio.
Individual Exercise
Easy. Make your own webpage. Using XHTML (and CSS if you’d like it to look pretty) make a webpage for yourself or one of your research projects. You can find information about hosting your own page on the Western server
here, and can learn the basics of web technologies with the excellent tutorials at the
W3 Schools.
